Following my trip to New York, I spent 2 weeks making prints, drawing, and exploring Skopelos at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Greece. Below are some of the prints I made.

New York Studio School Day 1-9

I have just finished Day 9 of the Drawing Marathon at the New York Studio School. Most days go from 9 am - 9pm including a long critique of the day's work. Drawings are evaluated by the Dean of the school and teacher of the course, Graham Nickson. The photo with the ladders shows the frenzy of pinning the drawings up ready for the critique.

I have been accepted into the New York Studio School's Drawing Marathon this June. The course is described as " Intellectually rigorous, physically challenging, and surprising in its stratagem for discoveries, this marathon gives the student a real understanding of the language and importance of drawing, today and in the past. The quest for form, space, and scale is a strong element. The role of drawing in painting is also explored. It is a very ambitious program pushing personal vision to an extreme."

Into My Own

ONE of my wishes is that those dark trees,
So old and firm they scarcely show the breeze,

I should not be withheld but that some day
Into their vastness I should steal away,

"As a bespectacled, chubby, library going youngster I never went in for the Babysitters Club. Nope, three snot-nosed younger siblings was enough to put me off kids for the forseeable future. The series of books I did get into, however, was Friends 4 Ever. Yep... I wanted so badly to be in their gang. Four teenage girls penning letters to each other, talking about ponies and boys and how shiny their hair was. Now at 25 years old, I want more than anything, to be in the Laura Jones Gang.

So I made it up. It’s not really a gang, but you should know about the leader.

Laura Jones is a 26 year old artist from Kurrajong, NSW, currently stirring chatter amongst arty-types with her bold, provocative portraits of young women, usually with her friends as subjects. Her work portrays moments in the lives of 20-something females that are both completely personal, yet recognised and felt by all of us.
How fabulous to be a friend of Laura’s and have your story told on canvas with such energy and raw emotion and yet also with something intangible, fluttering within. And to be honest, these girls just look like they’re leading such good looking, fun, well-dressed lives.
